Since 1989, Civic Member John DeCicco Sr. of DeCicco Family Markets and his staff have been helping fill food baskets with turkeys and vegetables and cider and pies, and then delivering them to local families in time for Thanksgiving….and then again for Christmas as part of the Civics’ Good Neighbors Program.

“This was the beginning of a wonderful tradition that still exists to this day,” said Rich Davidian, current chairman of the program. “At last count, the Civics purchased 95 Thanksgiving baskets that were prepared and delivered by the DeCicco’s, who are ready to add another 95 Christmas baskets to those families in need.”

Pelham Civic President Joe Benefico added: “It’s remarkable what John and his staff continue to do to help us mobilize this part of our Good Neighbors program. He and his staff provide us with tremendous discounts and they set up a production operation for two straight days downstairs assembling the baskets…and then deliver each and every basket, helping provide a happier Thanksgiving and Christmas that feeds over 700 individuals.”

Tim Curry, who oversees the holiday gift-giving sector of the program, added “The DeCicco Family is always there for the Civics and for Pelham. Always.” It was no surprise that in 2002, John DeCicco Sr. was honored with the Pelham Civics’ prestigious Man of the Year Award. He and his family continue to be examples of what community support, compassion and care are all about
