The Pelham Civic Association will award $28,000 to seven Pelham students who demonstrate community service, charitable support, and civic leadership at the Senior Awards Assembly at Pelham Memorial High School.

Awards

VINCENT LOPARDI COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD ($10,000) is presented to a graduating high school senior residing in Pelham, NY and who best exemplifies outstanding civic pride and community spirit. The recipient will demonstrate active participation in facing community real-life problems and issues by offering his or her skills to the needs of the community. 

CAMILLOD’URSO CHARITABLE SUPPORT AWARD ($8,000) is presented to either a high school, college, or graduate student who resides in Pelham, NY, and who best exemplifies leadership and support in charitable work. The recipient will demonstrate generous actions, donations of time, money, service, or help to persons less fortunate or organizations that provide for those in need.

JOSEPH L. NUNZIATA AWARD FOR CREATIVITY AND SERVICE ($2,500) is presented to a graduating high school senior residing in Pelham, NY who best represents her or his outstanding creative talents for the benefit of others. This may include creative disciplines such as writing, art, graphic design, photography, and creative and strategic concepts that enhance the lives of others.

HILDA MONAGHAN PORTER, RN, PHD, FNP-BC SUPPORT AWARD ($3,000) is presented to a graduating high school senior residing in Pelham, NY who desires to apply their talents to the study of disciplines within health and sciences. This may include medical care, nursing, medicine, or dental studies wherein they would benefit others and give back to their community in the future.

ANTHONY SENERCHIA MEMORIAL SERVICE AWARD ($2,000) is presented to a graduating high school senior residing in Pelham, NY who demonstrates strong community service by giving back to the community. Such actions would be best represented by helping the next generation of students reach their full potential whether through teaching/assisting younger students with after-school programs, activities, studies, or equivalent.

JUDGE RICHARD DARONCO CIVIC LEADERSHIP AWARD ($1,500) is awarded to a graduating high school senior who resides in Pelham and who has made a meaningful contribution to civic leadership either through involvement or advocacy. This includes working with federal, state, or local governments, governmental organizations, the courts, civic advocacy, communication and journalism.

PHILIP J. COLICCHIO LEADERSHIP AWARD ($1,000) presented each year to the incoming Pelham Memorial High School President of the Student Association, to reimburse the recipient for attending a leadership conference of their choice.

    Select the one (1) award you are applying for - multiple selections are not permitted. Applicants are required to submit the following:

    1. Name, address, email address, and telephone number

    2. All scholastic, athletic, extracurricular, and community activities you have participated in. You may submit a copy of your student activity profile if it contains the required information.

    3. A brief description of your contributions and/or your leadership abilities while participating in a charitable or community event or program

    Once completed, upload your application (preferably as 1 file) via the SUBMIT COMPLETED APPLICATION form at the bottom of this page.

    Applications become the confidential property of the Pelham Civic Association.

  • While the Pelham Civic's strongly supports education, the Lopardi, D'Urso, Porter, Nunziatta, and Senerchia awards not need based but rather acknowledgement of a candidate's accomplishments in meeting the specific criteria of the award the applicant chose to apply. The awards do not take into consideration an applicant's ability to pay for tuition or related educational expenses. Please do not provide any financial information with your application.

  • Grades and standardized test scores are not considered by the Pelham Civic Association as part of the application.  As noted above, the Pelham Civic's makes its determination based on the criteria for the award.   Please do not provide your transcript or standardized test scores with your application.

  • You do not need to attend school in Pelham to be considered for the Lopardi, D'Urso, Porter, Nunziatta, Colicchio, or Senerchia awards, but you must be a resident of Pelham. The Pelham Civic Association strongly encourages qualified students who reside in Pelham but attend school outside of Pelham to apply for one of the awards.

  • Given the large number of applications that the Pelham Civic's receives, we cannot review letters of recommendation as part of the application process.

  • While we try to interview as many qualified applicants as possible, we may not be able to interview all applicants.   Pelham Civic Association will notify students by invitation for an interview.

  • The winners will be publicly announced at the Pelham Memorial High School Senior Award Ceremony in June.   Winners will also be invited to attend a meeting of the Pelham Civic Association in June.

  • The Nunziata is presented to a senior who resides in Pelham who best represents their outstanding creative talents for the benefit of others. Applicants may, but are not required, to submit an example of their creative materials.
