PERSON OF THE YEAR:
 |
Each year our organization proudly honors as Person of the Year one individual who exemplifies the ideals of the Pelham Civic Association.
Our 2008 honoree, Ursla Huff, was feted at our 69th annual dinner-dance in November at the Fountainhead in New Rochelle. Among her many activities, she is a co-founder of Accents on Antiques, a unique Pelham success story that celebrated its 13th anniversary in 2008. As chief financial officer of this all-volunteer business, Ursla has helped spearhead its growth and, as a result, has not only played a vital role in Pelham's downtown renewal, but has helped raise almost $700,000 for the benefit of the Sound Shore Medical Center (SSMC).
|
She sits on the Friends of SSMC executive board and in 1999 the medical center awarded her the Marie Vitt
Humanitarian Award.
Ursla has also served as President of the Board of the International Garden Club (now the Bartow-Pell Conservancy), which preserves and manages the historic Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum. She has also served as president of the Junior League and as an officer of the Manor Club.
Ursla and her husband, Judge Stephen Huff, have lived in Pelham Manor for more than 40 years. They have three children, Neal, Rodney and Leila, and three grandchildren, Sawyer, Cory and Reece.
Ursla joins our list of ``hall of fame'' honorees that includes such Pelham luminaries as Lorri Gorman, Jack McCormack, Don Paglieri, Mary Hearle, John DeCicco, Maggie Klein, Dr. Fred Fiorito, Phil Colicchio, Joe Nunziata and Joe Delli Carpini.
