PERSON OF THE YEAR:

Each year our organization proudly honors as Person of the Year one individual who exemplifies the ideals of the Pelham Civic Association.

Our 2007 recipient, Lorri Gorman, former mayor of Pelham Manor, has been a mainstay of the political, cultural and social affairs of the community.

Lorri was honored at our annual dinner-dance last October at the Fountainhead in New Rochelle. She joined a list of prominent honorees that includes, most recently, Jack McCormack, Don Paglieri, Mary Hearle, John DeCicco, Maggie Klein and Dr. Fred Fiorito.

Lorri was a tireless leader of the committee that planned and raised funds for the Town of Pelham Public Library.  In 1991 the Pelham Chamber of Commerce named her Citizen of the Year for her efforts on the library project.

She has been active in the Junior League of Pelham for many years and served two terms on the Board of Directors. In 2005 she received the Elizabeth I. Junod award  “to honor the ongoing contributions of an outstanding sustaining member.”

Prior to her 2004-2006 term as mayor, Lorri had served on the Board of Trustees and as a member of the Planning Board and the Zoning Board of Appeals.

Ten years ago she initiated the popular Christmas gift drive currently at Our Lady of Perpetual Help church for needy families.  This “Giving Tree” project has turned into an annual event that helps more than 1,000 people. In addition, she teaches religious education classes once a week and serves as a Lector at Sunday mass once a month.

Lorri and her husband, Matt, have lived in Pelham Manor for 24 years.  They have five children, Katie, Bobby, Mickey, Kelly and Trish.

It is with great pride and admiration that we honor Lorri Gorman as the Pelham Civic Association's 2007 Person of the Year.
