BENEFIT GOLF OUTING: Join friends and members of the Pelham Civic Association at our annual Benefit Golf Outing on Tuesday, June 29 at the Leewood Golf Club in Eastchester. The primary beneficiary of this charity event is our Good Neighbor Program, which provides year-round assistance to less fortunate individuals, families and children in our community.
Put together a foursome and join us, or if you're planning to come alone we'll see that you are teamed up with some compatible hackers. It's a great deal ... a great time ... all for a great cause. Your generous contributions go directly to support our programs. The par-71 Leewood golf course, which measures 6,175 yards and dates to 1922, was designed by Devereaux Emmet, the famed architect whose other notable course designs include Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland. Early members included D.W.Griffith, the famed director of ``Birth of a Nation,'' and Babe Ruth. According to club lore, the tunnel leading to the Bronx River Parkway next to the front entrance was put there so Ruth could make a quick exit from the golf course to Yankee Stadium.
